Runner Sign

I met a Runner today. His traveling companion had recently been exposed to Ink and joined the ranks of Camper. I helped him . . . take care of the situation. Unfortunately it looks Camper pretty much controls the area around Muskegon lake now. The whole damn lake seems to be contaminated, hopefully It doesn't reach the Great Lakes that would be bad. Anyway I noticed him using the knife of his multitool to carve a symbol into a bench near the lake and asked him about it. Apparently some of the Runner community has adopted the old system of Hobo Sign to communicate.  Of course they've needed to add their own both to convey information that Hobo Code didn't include about Fears and Proxies and to avoid confusion. It seems the old symbol for "Okay here, good chance for food" was the Operator sign. I got him to scratch a few of the signs out on a sheet of paper for me and scanned them in for you. They're mostly drawn larger than they would be in real life so you can see them a bit better on your screen.

I especially like the insult inherent in the Timberwolve's sign. All it is is the sign for "dog" enclosed in a triangle symbolizing the Archangel. If any of you run across more Runner signs out there let me know so I record them for the education of future Runners.

  1. I've seen some of those signs around the city I'm staying in. This should make it easier to kill all the servants. Thank you very much, Proxiehunter.

  2. Gonna start scratching the oathbreaker one into every clean hospital I know. Good luck figuring that out Runners. Also I'm gonna scratch that nest sign onto my front door just for fun.

I wonder if I can scratch the safe here sign onto O'Briens once it's rebuilt.

  3. So much for a "code amongst Runners."

You would think keeping such a thing secret would be the smarter thing to do. Passed on through word of mouth and such. Not posted on the internet where anyone can start making the system collapse like the Faceless Fiend above...

But what do I know? I'm just a Proxy. Keep up the EXCELLENT work, darling. I'm certain your assistance is going to aid HUNDREDS.

  4. Hopefully, Faceless Bastard's work only effects his location. I'd hat to see proxy interference spreading too far.

    1. I have to ask. Have you taken more blows to the head than *me*?

    2. I doubt it. Why do you ask?

  6. You're defeating the purpose, Proxie. Not to mention.. you're missing more than a few. Going around handing out half complete lists won't help anyone.

  7. I must say that I adore the thought of Runner code, however I think making it so public might be a bad idea...

But alas, this brings out the worst in me. I might follow the Bastard's example and scratch the Oathbreaker sign on every hospital and the EAT sign on every water tower and any other similar storage facilities.

I might even tag a few random houses with the Camper and Nest symbols.

This will provide many hours of fun while I'm bored waiting for something to happen.

  8. Have fun recreating your little code. It seems likely what you already have has become inviable.

  9. Wow, good to know, at the desert symbols actually means proxy activity, since not many inquisitors or runners use even the operator symbol (most basic one if you ask me). Jaja, oops maybe I commit a mistake not so long ago in one of my adventures in America, ash, an solitary wolf should never abandon his own lands... Whatever, lets hope they were proxys to prevent internal conflics.

Here we and the runners (we just call the victims) have a pretty interesting *musical system*, it goes from whistling specific tunes to making specific beats with something of metal. It is pretty useful at night if you don't want to be killed by your own men. This #tunes#, usually change according to the seasons.
